Directions

From Nice, exit the motorway at Ventimiglia and follow the signs carefully for Ventimiglia town centre ("centro") and then "San Remo". Drive straight through the centre of Ventimiglia, and then after approximately 2 kms, before you get to Vallecrosia on the Via Aurelia (the main coastal road), immediately after crossing a bridge over the railway you come to a roundabout, where you turn left up the Val Nervia signposted "Camporosso, Dolceacqua, Pigna".

Go through Camporosso (at 3 kms from this last junction) and the medieval town of Dolceacqua (a further 4 kms), and about 1 km after leaving Dolceacqua, turn left just after a bridge over the river, to "Rocchetta Nervina". About 3 kms along this road, turn left again to "La Colla". From that junction, you wind up into the hills for 2 kms, and you will find Casa Villatalla situated on the right.

Because it is a sharp right hand turn, cross over the road into a kind of lay-by on your left hand side, and swing round to the right into our driveway. You then drive 200 yards along our private access road through olive trees, and you will find the main gate in front of you when the house comes into view.

NB: On Fridays there is a huge market in Ventimiglia which is known internationally, and the town sometimes comes to a virtual standstill. We therefore strongly recommend anyone arriving on a Friday, and for that matter during rush hour which is between 18.00 and 20.00 on weekdays, to remain on the motorway at Ventimiglia and exit at Bordighera which is the next one along, and follow the directions from there, as below.

From the direction of Genoa, exit the motorway at Bordighera. At the first roundabout immediately after leaving the pay station, follow the sign to "Bordighera", and then at the next roundabout turn right to "Ventimiglia". You then descend steeply (there are a number of tight hairpin bends) and eventually arrive at a T junction at the bottom. There turn right (exercise care as it is a difficult turn) and you quickly arrive at another roundabout, where you turn left to "Ventimiglia". Follow this road until you come to another T junction with traffic lights.

There turn right (again it is signposted "Ventimiglia"); this is the Via Aurelia. Stay on this road through Vallecrosia and Camporosso Mare, and at just over 2 kms from the junction where you turned right, and immediately after passing an Agip petrol station on your left hand side, turn right at the small roundabout into the road signposted "Camporosso, Dolceacqua, Pigna", and continue as above.

Please note:

1. We have no connection with the village of Villatalla which lies in the hills behind Imperia, nor with another village called Villatella above Latte just west of Ventimiglia. So if using a GPS system, please be aware - best to aim for "Dolceacqua".

2. For those hiring cars at Nice Airport, if you want to get onto the Autoroute straightaway it can be tricky if you're not paying attention! From the car hire depot at Terminal 2, you need to follow the sign for "Terminal 2 / A8", first at a roundabout and then when the road divides. You then drive past a Total petrol station (make sure you're in the right hand lane), and take the first right immediately afterwards ("Sortie"). Then follow the river on your left hand side until you get to another roundabout, where you will see the sign for "A8 Genes" (which means Genoa), straight on. At this roundabout take the second exit (the first exit is "no entry") signposted to "A8 Genes/Nice Centre", then once on that road, turn immediately right, i.e. after just a few yards. This will bring you directly onto the Autoroute.

Transport:

If any guests wish it, we can arrange to pick them up from Nice Airport, or Nice or Ventimiglia Railway Station. We are, of course, located in the countryside so guests should be aware that a car is virtually indispensable, but there may be some who do not wish to move very much!

We are able to transport up to 4 people and their luggage, and we charge 80 euros for collection from or taking to Nice Airport or Rail Station, and 30 euros for Ventimiglia Rail Station. These prices remain unchanged however many passengers there are (i.e. the price is for the journey, not per person), and are inclusive of the motorway toll charges and any airport parking required.

This facility will not, however, normally be available before 10am or after 6 pm.
